New Version of VersaStudio Version 2.41

Date: May 2014

A new version of VersaStudio is now released.

VersaStudio 2.41 is now published to our website and is shipping with all associated instrumentation, including the PARSTAT4000, PARSTAT MC, and VersaSTAT Family of potentiostats.

This Field Memo announces this and details new features and enhancements. These should be reviewed by both Sales and Support staff.

As always, this is free to download and has a Firmware update bundled with it.

In addition to minor bug fixes, VersaStudio 2.41 provides the following…

New Experiment Actions and Access.
1) In the “Energy” package, charge and discharge rates can now be specified in terms of “C-Rate”. 1 C is a normalized current that would completely discharge or charge a battery with a known capacity (mAh) in 1 hour.
2) “CC-CV” action the added to “Energy” package. The charge-step for rechargeable batteries can now be controlled from a single Experiment Properties window. This includes the ability to “Accrue Q”.

New Functionality and Improved User Experience.
1) Progress markers now highlight the action of the sequence currently being executed (GREEN) and the action of the sequence during data transfer (YELLOW). YELLOW is only seen if data transfer lags data acquisition which is allowed by our data buffer.
2) New Firmware implements key modifications to temperature control of the PARSTAT4000.
a. Decreased audible fan volume during the course of daily, typical operation.
b. Decreased opportunity for High Temperature Alerts to cause termination of an experiment.

Fixes and Enhancements for Improved Functionality.
1) The maximum stimulus in Galvanostatic EIS (GEIS) experiments has been raised to the hardware limit of the instrumentation. For example, the PARSTAT4000, capable of 4-Amps peak-to-peak, can
now apply 2.8 Amps RMS signal in GEIS.
1 Amp RMS = 0.707 * 1 Amp peak-to-peak.
This improves the ability of each instrument to measure low impedance samples, such as batteries and fuel cells.
2) The limit on number of actions and segments has been removed. It was previously 3800. There are now an unlimited number of actions and segments possible. Loops (“Number of Iterations”) are limited to 100,000 and as before there can be 1 “nested” loop, a loop within a loop.
3) “Instrument” tab has been created under Tools ? Options. This allows each channel to be individually calibrated for best DC Accuracy and where applicable FLOAT Mode; Notch Filters set.

Improved Access to Instrument Details
1) Individual FPGA and FW version numbers are now listed in the Help ? About window.
Any questions or comments regarding this software or process should be forwarded to Dr. Rob Sides, Product Manager (rob.sides@ametek.com).
